'Anne With an E' Canceled by Netflix
The third season of Anne With an E will be its last. Netflix said Monday that the Canadian drama, based on Anne of Green Gables, will end with its upcoming 10-episode season, which debuts Jan. 3 on the streamer and has already aired on Canadian public broadcaster CBC.

"Alternate reasons for cancellation were given on November 27 in response to a Twitter campaign to save the show, namely a lack of audience growth in the 25-54 age range."

Anne with an E creator says show won't be revived despite fan petition
Walley-Beckett said she tried to find a new home for the show, or to create a finale movie, but wasn't able to in the end. The series' third and final season finished airing on CBC last month and will be released Jan. 3 on Netflix.

It's no surprise why it was cancelled. CBC was getting pressured to end the series by people who don't like diversity, social justice, and the inconvenient reality of our shared history that the show brought to light.

This is heartbreaking and a travesty. I was one of many who contacted Walley-Beckett and pleaded with her to keep the series going! But it was no use, she threw in the towel.

It comes down to ratings and money. There wasn't enough to sustain the series.
According to Catto, cancelling Anne With An E was a difficult decision made jointly by the Canadian public broadcaster and Netflix, with one main factor being that the show didn't register enough of an audience boost in the 25-54 age range.
